Red Oak Fabrication formulates and applies powder coatings to meet demanding architectural building codes and outdoor exposure environments:

AAMA 2603 (Standard Interior/Light Exterior)
Ideal for interior enclosures, store fixtures, and light-duty commercial components requiring good color retention and impact resistance.
AAMA 2604 (High-Performance Exterior)
Engineered for commercial architectural elements, outdoor machinery, and structural frames requiring resistance to intense UV radiation, chalking, and salt spray exposure.
AAMA 2605 (Superior Fluoropolymer Performance)
The highest architectural coating tier, delivering 10-year weatherability and color retention for monumental structural facades, high-end architectural metal, and severe environmental exposures.

Surface Preparation Workflow

Proper surface preparation accounts for 80% of coating performance. Red Oak Fabrication combines mechanical blasting and multi-stage chemical washing before powder application:

1. Mechanical Media Blasting

Parts enter our 14′ x 24′ Clemco blast booths or automated Viking/Gibson wheel-blast cabinets to remove mill scale, rust, laser oxide, and weld slag.

2. 3-Stage Chemical Pretreatment

Cleaned parts move into our 12′ x 24′ wash booth for degreasing, multi-stage chemical rinsing, and surface conversion coating to guarantee maximum adhesion.

3. Electrostatic Powder Application

Parts are transferred via overhead rails into our 12′ x 24′ spray booth where specialized powders are electrostatically applied.

4. Precision Thermal Curing

Powder-coated parts enter our 12′ x 24′ or 15′ x 30′ batch ovens, curing at controlled temperatures to form a durable, cross-linked polymer shell.

High-Temperature Burn-Off Oven

Clean fixture grounding is essential for uniform electrostatic powder deposition. Red Oak Fabrication operates an on-site 7′ x 7′ x 10′ high-temperature burn-off oven that uses controlled pyrolysis to:

  • Safely strip baked-on powder coating buildup from hanging racks, hooks, and fixtures.
  • Reclaim mis-processed parts without abrasive blasting distortion.
  • Ensure perfect electrical grounding across all overhead conveyor lines for consistent coating mil-thickness.
