Practice Sports, based in Omaha, Nebraska, approached Red Oak Fabrication in September 2018 with a unique manufacturing challenge.
At the time, Practice Sports had its products processed by a manufacturer in Oklahoma. They had established products and a growing customer base, but they did not have engineering drawings or digital manufacturing files for the products they needed to produce.
Practice Sports brought several of its existing products to Red Oak Fabrication and asked ROF to develop a manufacturing process from the physical products themselves.
Their request was straightforward: Can you reverse engineer these products and produce several hundred of them each year?

Practice Sports needed a manufacturing partner capable of taking physical products with no existing blueprints, CAD files or manufacturing drawings and turning them into repeatable, production-ready components.
The products needed to be accurately reproduced while maintaining consistency across hundreds of units.
Initially, Practice Sports was looking for manufacturing capacity. However, as demand increased, another challenge quickly emerged: the volume of finished products became more than Practice Sports could keep up with on its own.
Practice Sports needed a partner that could not only manufacture the products but also help manage the increasing workload associated with packaging and fulfillment.
Red Oak Fabrication began by taking the physical Practice Sports products and reverse-engineering them into manufacturable components.
ROF developed the necessary manufacturing information and processes to reproduce the products consistently, then took the products through the complete production cycle.
The process included:
As production increased, ROF’s role expanded beyond fabrication.
Practice Sports experienced such rapid growth in demand that the company asked ROF to take over packaging and direct-to-customer shipping because Practice Sports could no longer keep up with the fulfillment workload.
ROF provided Practice Sports with a complete manufacturing and fulfillment solution, including:
This allowed Practice Sports to move from relying on an outside processor in Oklahoma to working with a manufacturing partner much closer to home while also gaining a supplier capable of supporting the company’s growth.
What began with several physical product samples and a request to produce several hundred units per year developed into a much broader manufacturing and fulfillment partnership.
Red Oak Fabrication became responsible not only for manufacturing Practice Sports products, but also for packaging and shipping finished products directly to Practice Sports’ customers.
The partnership allowed Practice Sports to increase its capacity without having to add the same level of manufacturing, packaging and fulfillment infrastructure internally.
ROF effectively became an extension of Practice Sports’ operation—manufacturing the products, preparing them for shipment and getting them directly into the hands of their customers.
| Operational Parameter | Baseline (Pre-ROF) | Red Oak Turnkey Solution | Strategic Value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Design Documentation | Zero CAD files or blueprints | Complete reverse engineering & CAD files | Repeatable digital asset library |
| Manufacturing Location | Oklahoma processor | Regional Midwest partner (Red Oak) | Shorter transit & lead times |
| Packaging & Labeling | Internal bottleneck | 100% turnkey kitting & packaging | Eliminated warehouse overhead |
| Fulfillment & Logistics | Managed in-house | Direct-to-customer shipping | Scalable fulfillment capacity |
The Practice Sports partnership demonstrates ROF’s ability to take a product from a physical sample with no engineering files and turn it into a scalable manufacturing and fulfillment operation.
Key milestones include:
Practice Sports came to Red Oak Fabrication with a handful of physical products and a manufacturing need.
ROF turned those products into a repeatable manufacturing process—and as Practice Sports’ demand grew, ROF grew with them.
Today, the relationship demonstrates what happens when a fabrication company becomes more than a supplier: ROF becomes an extension of the customer’s operation, from reverse engineering and manufacturing all the way through packaging and direct-to-customer fulfillment.
